Prof. Iroha, Ifeanyichukwu Romanus is a professor of Medical Microbiology with specialization in Pharmaceutical Microbiology.
He started his lecturing career in the Department of Applied Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki in 2004 till date.
He obtained his B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D from the Department of Microbiology and Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology respectively in University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State.
In 2009, he won the prestigious post-doctoral fellowship award from the German Government under the sponsorship of Alexandra von Humboldt (AvH) Stiftung Foundation, Germany.
During his stay in Germany, he conducted comprehensive research on Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases in Ruhr Universität Bochum from 2009 to 2011.
He has won many national and international research grants and has over 180 publications in reputable national and international journals.
He was Head of Department of Applied Microbiology, Ebonyi State University, Dean, and the pioneer Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki.
His research interest centers around antimicrobial resistance, infectious diseases, and microbiology.
His long-term research goals involve the development of a broad knowledge and skill base for the comprehensive understanding of key microbiological, epidemiological, genetic, and epigenetic mechanisms
driving the evolution and transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly in our environment and hospital settings.
He is a fellow of the Nigeria Young Academy of Science, Fellow of the Alexandra von Humboldt Stiftung Foundation Germany,
and a member of the American Society of Microbiology, Nigeria Society of Microbiology, Applied Microbiology International (United Kingdom),
and the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
